Happy Birthday Mom

Today would have been my mom's 81st birthday. Unfortunately she's been gone for 26 yrs now. She was not a perfect person but I loved her (and still do) with all my heart. As I get older I find myself becoming more like her everday. Fortunately it's all the good parts of her ~ and the goofy parts too. She was crazy ~ and I mean that in the best sense of the word. There wasn't a roller coaster she wouldn't go on... and had no problem embarrassing herself to liven things up. She never lost the childish side of herself despite having some really rough times in her life. She was always there to comfort us when we needed it and she sang ~ all the time. She had a really good voice too (something I DID NOT inherit). She was raised Irish Catholic so "Danny Boy" was frequently heard but my favorite song she would sing was "My Buddy". I hadn't thought too much about it until some years after she passed away. I had gotten a new CD. I think it was called "For Our Children" and it had a variety of artists on it from Amy Grant to James Taylor and Elton John. It's a great CD and I've just found out that there is a "For Our Children, Too" which benefits pediatric aids... anyway.. Imagine my surprise listening to the words of this song after her passing...

Nights are long since you went away,
I think about you all through the day,
My buddy, my buddy, no buddy quite so true.
Miss your voice, the touch of your hand,
Just long to know that you understand,
My buddy, my buddy, your buddy misses you

Talk about appropriate... I still have a hard time listening to it and not crying... but it's a good cry. Yes, I miss her but she made me what I am today and I am eternally grateful to have had her in my life... so, here's to you Mom. Happy Birthday and know I am thinking of you, loving you and missing you.

That is a beautiful tribute to your Mom. She sounds like a wonderful woman. :)

P.S. You might want to include "word verification" on your blogger comments. That'll get rid of those annoying spam comments. :)

I love the fact that your mom rode roller coasters - - one of my favorite pastimes.

That's a lovely photo as well!
