Guess I should start with the most important news... My daughter Jen is doing great. She is 35 weeks pregnant this Saturday. The baby is healthy and active and starting to make Jen a bit uncomfortable ~ just what babies are supposed to do. They start off in the womb so they can gradually work their way up to driving you completely insane!
We had a baby shower for her last Saturday up in Jacksonville. Her friends Dee and Larry graciously lent us their house for the event. It was a bit tricky trying to get everything done from here and transporting it up there... but all in all it turned out well. It was nice to meet more of her Jacksonville friends and she got some great gifts. All they need now is the baby!
My dear friend Sue made the cake for the shower Is that not the cutest thing you have ever seen? I do have to say that her husband did a lot of the decorating on the cake because Sue broke her wrist (roller blading with her daughter!) She also made J&J this diaper cake The kids helped her by rolling all the diapers. It was great to see it being put together.
Lots of good food (if I do say so myself) including stuffed mushrooms, deviled eggs, fruit salad in an orange cream sauce, hot wings (ordered in) and the biggest hit was little cocktail weenies wrapped in dough and baked. Super simple but everyone loved them.
We also played a couple of fun games. I think the best one was making a baby out of play dough. I bought a bunch of small containers of play dough and had everyone make the best baby they could. We had some very talented artists and the kids loved having something they could do too. Here is the well deserved winner although Julianne's was really great too but I had to disqualify her since she technically was one of the hosts of the shower.
Speaking of hosts.... here we are with the guest of honor herself. Doesn't she look great?
And last, but certainly not least ~ the parents to be!
It was, in the end an exhausting but successful day!

A slight clarification: this was Jen's second baby shower. The first was down in south Florida, and Barbara worked her butt off for that one too.
There you are! I was wondering what you had been up to!
No, let me clarify. Yes, I worked my butt off before the first shower ~ but just on the stuff I was making for her gifts. Mindy and Val did all the work for the shower itself. That post will be coming up in the next few days.
Playdough babies! iLOL!
It looks like a fun time was had by everyone - the countdown is on - has someone given Jen a bottle of pickles to carry around with her? LOL!
What an exciting time in all of your lives. Enjoy every minute of it.
Jen looks great!!!
So glad to see you writing again Barb! And thanks for the pug license plate!
Grandma Judy
welcome back! I, too, write for myself. Do NOT let criticism get to you - if you do, the trolls win.
Yes, Jen looks great. :) And that is the CUTEST shower cake I've ever seen! I'll have to tell my sister (she's a great cake-maker) about that. :)
